She’ll Never See

She'll Never See I used to take great joy in showing off my latest creations to my mom. It struck me today as I was working on these latest ones, that she’ll never see them, at least not in this lifetime. Still, I know that she’d love the work, and the joy that I take in it. The storm that broke on the morning I took this was both meteorological and emotional. It was the first major storm to hit Northern California this season, and it came as my family gathered for to witness my mother’s final days. Just as I woke that morning, my mother passed into eternity, taking the storm clouds with her, but leaving a storm in my heart. Already, many times since that morning, I’ve reached for the phone or looked for her online, forgetting that she’s not there. The universe moves on, but she is gone.
